In the beginning there are just little signs that tell us that there is a gift within us, waiting to be set free. In my old life before embarking on my spiritual journey I remember little clues.
On a night out, I had a feeling which table would win in a raffle, sometimes correctly guessing the person. Knowing who was on the phone even if we hadn’t heard from them for years. It’s like a little voice showing and telling us its there. Of course most people ignore that voice and think it’s just their imagination. That gift that speaks, dreams and guides through the imagination is a flame waiting to find a purpose to illuminate.
As a child I knew I was meant to help people, although at the time I didn’t know how. As I grew older and learnt about my intuition I can only describe a deep knowing that I would be 30 when I got married, would marry a Scots man, (even though I lived in Stoke- On –Trent in England) and would be involved in a spiritual centre. I did not grow up in a spiritual family yet I was always deeply spiritual. Looking back many of my actions as a child followed the Buddhist teachings even though I had never had any exposure to the Buddhist path.The death of my mum, my best friend and greatest teacher of love, propelled me deeper into my spiritual journey. The suffering I went through at that time initiated a question that I was willing to search for my whole life.
I clearly remember, at the age of 23, asking for guidance to understand why we get sick, why we suffer and what we can do about it. This question, put out to the universe through desperate tears, led me to a person who could help me find answers. I moved to New Zealand where I worked as a physiotherapist, and it was here that my patients suggested that I trained in Reiki.
I searched for a Reiki teacher with the heart and mind to teach me this ancient path. I was blessed to find Margaret Underwood. She is a wonderful Reiki Master who I knew was the right person for me.
Through her pure lineage and heart, she transmitted the essence of Reiki to me. From there I healed from the deep-seated grief that I had lived with. Years later I met my soul mate (a Scotsman) and the unthinkable happened. We got the opportunity to buy Lendrick Lodge spiritual centre.
Here in the hills of the Trossachs, Lendrick Lodge is a school of Reiki where students learn Reiki and experience the deep immeasurable shifts that happen as of a result of bringing this energy into their lives. Reiki healing has been the answer to my question. It is also the answer to thousands of other souls looking for a way to bring more happiness and purpose to their lives. For most people, once they fill themselves with this unlimited love they choose to deepen their training, empowering themselves to give Reiki to others.
Having worked with Reiki on a daily basis for 17 years I know that this energy is profound and supports every aspect of our being. It works with us all so differently, depending upon what we each need to experience. In the beginning it enabled me to help my physio patients with pain relief, swelling and reduced joint mobility. This in turn led many of them to train with me in Reiki after they had experienced a shift in their perception of reality.
In the beginning it was difficult for some people to comprehend how it worked. Later as they continued to Reiki themselves, deep changes took place. In many ways it is as if a new energy is flowing through you. An awakening of dormant dreams, birthing of creative ideas and often a whole life change. With this new awakening and further training, the awareness of how we are in the world, our speech, our actions and thoughts begins to preoccupy our minds.
Prior to this, often our old ways do not allow us to see clearly that our actions determine our future experiences. Reiki helps us to develop an internal ‘anger management programme’. We catch our anger before it gets out of control and causes hurt for others and ourselves.Reiki creates more positivity with our speech and actions. We find renewed enthusiasm to keep practicing and growing. Our compassion expands.
Other around us benefit, as we become happier and more fulfilled, we inspire other to do the same. It’s a gift to your family and friends when you give yourself Reiki.
Reiki brings to our awareness the necessity to love all beings with no discrimination. This practice takes a bit of time to learn for many, any new habit does. Yet when we aspire to stop discriminating, ‘I like you, I don’t like you, you’re okay, your not’ etc we find that our compassion naturally grows. This is our core essence. The rest, the anger, the impatience, the jealousy, pride etc are just an old way of responding to life. Reiki gives a fresh, loving new model to live with.
When I contemplate my innocent thoughts as a child on how I wanted to make a difference in the world, I see how Reiki was the gift I wanted to discover.
