Julie started yoga at the age of 15 coming to Iyengar 4 years later and has remained dedicated to the method ever since. Choosing to pursue one method gives purity in her practice, knowledge and understanding. Julie has a current Junior Intermediate Teaching Certificate with many years teaching experience. Her local classes in The Borders, South Lanarkshire and Midlothian are very popular. She is particularly keen on anatomy and will bring her ‘bony’ friend to assist in the weekend. She is also fortunate to have several trips to India under her belt where she has studied with all of the Iyengars as well as being asked to help in their medical classes. A country and people she has very much fallen in love with. Over the weekend here she will systematically look at a variety of asanas (poses) from varying perspectives. Starting with work in the poses from external bodywork: focusing on alignment and extension to bring strength and stability to the body. Learning to use props where necessary: but also as a bit of fun using gym balls to guide and support us in our practice. Introducing work in restorative poses to help in exploring the breath. Culminating with a more internal approach involving the consciousness, the elements, the chakras and their associated sounds. The combined effect is all encompassing: from vibrant asana work to soft peaceful practices which release you gracefully into a quietness of mind and increased bodily awareness producing a profound sense of well being. Julie’s watchful eye recognises the varying needs within a group and will adapt and adjust accordingly through the sessions. Enjoy a nurturing break in the tranquil reality of Lendrick Lodge.
