‘Quiet Mind - Open Heart’,
Yoga Weekend with Madeleine Howard
7pm Friday 23 March
– 4pm Sunday 25 March For
a second year Madeleine Howard will be sharing inspiring yoga
teachings at Lendrick Lodge. Madeleine will be teaching asana
practice in the Iyengar tradition
encouraging you to quieten the
mind through focus on the breath and postures.
Over the weekend you will explore a varied asana practice
from the standings, twists, balancing, inverted, backbends,
forward bends, and sitting. You will explore the breath, giving
you the gift of focus and relaxation. Madeleine will also
lead you in healing meditation
and guide you in the sacred art
of chanting to connect you to the power within. Along
with the wonderful tools you will learn over the weekend you
will also have the opportunity to explore the magical surroundings
of Lendrick Lodge, so please
bring warm clothing and comfortable walking boots.
As a healer of 26 years experience, Madeleine sees the benefit
of being able to be responsible for our own health through
the regular practise of a discipline, like yoga. She began
practising yoga with dynamic healer, Patricia
MacManaway, which led her to explore and enjoy varied
traditions, to then begin teaching Patricia’s classes.
Studying in the Astanga method with Sri
K Pattabhi Jois in India in 1998 enabled her to realise
the full possibility of complete mental and emotional, as
well as physical well-being through regular practice. While
her three sons were at school in Edinburgh, she took the opportunity
to train as a yoga teacher at the Edinburgh
Iyengar Yoga Centre, qualifying in 2000.
Cost: £140 (£130 if booked before
28 January), deposit £70 (non-refundable).
A
Weekend of Yoga and Qi Gong with Tom Yeudall 7pm
Friday 20 – 4pm Sunday 22 April
7pm Friday 26 – 4pm Sunday 28 October
Inspirational Yoga teacher Tom
Yeudall continues to share his teachings at Lendrick
with two memorable weekends. In Tom’s weekend retreats
he delves into his treasure trove of knowledge and experience
and creates a progressive movement towards the whole course.
His combination of advancement
within the asana sequences studied and the freeing
of energy brought about with the Qi
Gong classes make for a rejuvenating
weekend.
Fourteen years ago Tom and his partner Irene (qualified Iyengar
teacher since 1984) became enthralled by the
powerful effects of Qi Gong and Tai Chi on the body
as a whole and were compelled to entwine these complimentary
paths with their yoga teachings.
Tom’s yoga style is a direct result of his own fine-tuning
by B K S Iyengar. He has
practised yoga since the early 1960’s and has
been teaching since 1971 under the wing of The British
Wheel. He qualified as an Iyengar tutor in 1979. In 1981 he
spent time with B K S Iyengar in Pune, India, and has shared
that style, precision and deep understanding of Yoga ever
since. In 1981 Tom was given permission to train teachers
and as a senior teacher in the West of Scotland Tom Yeudall
has inspired many teachers. His dedication and life long commitment
has given many others a blue print for success as yoga teachers.
All levels of student are welcome to this educational, relaxing
and fun weekend.
Cost: £140, (£130 if booked
before 28 January) deposit £70 (non-refundable).
‘Undo Tension – Free
the Spine’, Yoga with Sophy Hoare
7pm Thursday 10 - 3pm
Sunday 13 May In this course the
aim will be to help students discover
a way of practising that leads them towards wholeness and
freedom of movement; wholeness because the whole body
becomes involved in every movement, and freedom because when
the body moves in an integrated way, it experiences no block
or limit and no part of the body is put under stress. In this
natural and animal-like way of moving, we actively release
tension and unblock the deep, alive movement of the spine.
Problem areas are not focused on directly but allowed to find
their place in the context of the whole so that they free
themselves spontaneously. I hope to demonstrate that there
is no 'method', but a basic principle of working and paying
attention, which is the same in all the postures and is a
key to practice. This shall be done by showing students how
I practice, by observing their movements closely to find the
best way of helping them, by explaining some principles, by
using language to help them train their attention, and wherever
possible by giving individual help through touch. Questions
and dialogue are encouraged, I come to the course with no
pre-arranged plan but rather respond to what I see in the
students' practice.
The course is most suitable for people
who have an established personal practice, but less experienced
students are welcome if they bear in mind that it is not aimed
primarily at beginners.
Sophy has been teaching yoga for
30 years and is based in south London where she runs
regular classes and courses and teaches private lessons. She
also teaches on workshops and residential retreats throughout
the British Isles and abroad. Originally Sophy practised and
taught Iyengar yoga. Later
she met Vanda Scaravelli,
who invited her to Italy to be her student. Sophy continued
to visit her once or twice a year for eight years until her
death. During this period she met Diane
Long, a long-term student of Vanda's, whom she invited
to London to teach both herself and her students. This led
to a fruitful collaboration between them and they continue
to practice and teach together whenever they can. It is from
Diane that she learned to understand Vanda's teaching profoundly
enough for it to gradually become her own 'inner teacher'.

28 January) deposit £100 (non-refundable).

'Getting
to know ourselves better' with Peter Blackaby
2pm Monday 9 – 3pm
Sunday 15 July
One of the main themes in yoga is
the integration of the mind the body and the breath.
This begs the question that at some point there was disintegration.
In pursuit of integration it has often puzzled me that the
mind (meditation) the body (asana) and the breath (pranayama)
are frequently kept in their separate boxes. So this week
will look at ways we can bring these three aspects of our
human nature together in a useful and meaningful way.
There are probably three main ways that interfere with the
capacity to be a fully integrated (mature) person. Firstly
we never fully connected, secondly we shut down feelings that
were difficult to deal with, and thirdly we form habits, so
we often don't know what we are doing. This week will look
at ways that can help us notice and integrate these things
through attentive yoga practice.
Peter Blackaby has been a student
of yoga for 28yrs and continues to look for ways that help
us develop and grow as human beings. His approach is grounded
in a secure knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and his ongoing
studies into the human condition.
The week will be of useful to anyone interested in deepening
their understanding of yoga and its practical relationship
to their life. A minimum of two years of practice would be
ideal, but any enquiring mind would be very welcome.
“Peter Blackaby is one of the most warm
hearted, ego less male yoga teachers I have ever had the great
privilege of working with. His tender loving nature is a cherished
gift to all who continue to return to share his Mastery and
fun sense of being”
Stephen Mulhearn – Lendrick

A
Week of Yoga with Gary Carter
7pm Wednesday 18 –
4pm Sunday 22 July
In this week-long course with Gary, we will be exploring the
Yoga practice from a structural perspective whilst looking
at how form and function intertwine with each other; exploring
what really creates the sense of lightness within practice
and movement; how we can start to create the conditions for
freedom within the practice.
We will explore our response to gravity and how it informs
our practice deeply, being the “prime mover” so
that the tension becomes our teacher!
From all this understanding and wider approach can we evolve
the practice?
We will be exploring Anatomy, Structure,
Form and Function.
Gary has an extensive history of over 25 years’ experience
in movement, physical training, anatomical study and bodywork
practices. His background incorporates athletics, competitive
cycling, bodybuilding, martial arts and yoga along with the
manual therapies of cranio-sacral therapy, shiatsu and structural
integration. From this diverse background Gary has created
his own unique way of working with the body that he incorporates
into both his practical and theoretical lectures.
In 1990, Gary set up the Natural Bodies Centre in Brighton
to provide a range of related movement and manual disciplines
where he could teach, train and encourage others to develop
kinesthetic awareness, ease of movement and efficient body
use in exercise and sport. He continues to develop and evolve
his understanding of balance, integration and functional movement
by working with other anatomists in the USA and Europe and
with movement teachers from the fields of dance, contact improvisation,
Tai Chi, Pilates, Gyrotonics and martial arts. He has studied
extensively and taught with Tom Myers in Anatomy Trains and
Structural Integration.
He was introduced to the Yoga of Vanda
Scaravelli in 1988 and subsequently explored the work
through various teachers until he eventually met Vanda and
continued the work under the influence of Diane
Long and continues to work with Diane to this day.
Cost: £325 (£300 if booked before
28 January) deposit £150 (non-refundable).
Undo
- Wake Up and Move into Stillness - with Jeanette Karlsson
7pm Friday 24 – 4pm
Monday 27 August
A retreat to explore the possibility of both
total freedom of movement and great stillness within.
We all have this duality in us: the body's urge for dynamic
movement and also the need to find quietness. In the practise
of yoga and meditation, we can rediscover the intimate relationship
between the passionate and the calm. Not only in the physical
sphere but also in the stirrings of the mind and emotional life.
If we do not allow the passion
to find expression, our posture may become one of holding and
contraction while the mind gets dull, restless or irritable.
Inspired by the creative approach to yoga taught by students
of Vanda Scaravelli and the
teachings of the Buddha,
also, the dynamic energy of the
martial arts, Jeanette Karlsson (born in Sweden 1969)
combines her own practise and teachings. She lives and teaches
in Brighton, at festivals in the UK, and abroad. She attends
regular retreats especially insight meditation and inquiry
as taught by Christopher Titmuss.
Jeanette trained to teach yoga at Morley College (200-2001)
with Rosamunde Jordan and Marilyn
Freedman. Jeanette’s background of traditional
Thai-Yoga-Massage clearly
links the path of yoga and meditation together.
You are warmly invited to unravel
the body, mind and heart towards a freer reality. Using
the simple tools of the breath, the ground or gravity, we
learn how to reconnect to and free up the spine - our centre.
The exhalation connects to a sense of stability and groundedness.
Discover how to combine the breath with asanas, joyful movement
and periods of calmness.
Gradually, as outer tension
falls away, we find new ways to unfold from inside out.
Enjoy reshaping the patterns within our spine, muscles and
joints, positively effecting the whole. New spaces open up
as if by magic!
Short periods of silence show you how to go deeper still
and a state of meditation can move in. Without force, we deepen
further with the use of pranayama (yogic breathing) and simple
meditation techniques found in the tradition of the Buddha.
There is nowhere to go or nothing to become - just
let yourself go -and let peace and freedom in.
Cost: £230 (£200 if booked
before 28 January) deposit £100 (non-refundable)
Touching
the heart of Yoga with Christian Damek
7pm Wednesday 12 – 4pm
Sunday 16 September
Christian Damek who has trained with
HH The Dalai Lama amongst other eminent teachers, is a teacher
and practitioner of what he calls Hybrid Yoga. Based
on his studies of Integral Yoga
and Ashtanga Yoga, and combining
these fundamentally traditional Ayuervedic approaches with Tantra
and the schools of Bhikram, Iyengar, Sivananda, Kundalini and
Viniyoga styles, he trains his students in alignment,
movement and breath awareness. Meditation and chanting are used
to systematically explore one’s inner sense of re-awakening.
Christian uses spiritual philosophy; metaphors and poetry to
further enhance the dept of his training.
This Yoga Retreat will consist of
a comprehensive programme of daily practice and is accompanied
by ‘workshopping’ various aspects. The participants
will receive detailed instruction and support so as to design
or deepen their personal practice.
The afternoon workshops consist of dealing with the process
of more clearly developing the physical alignment details
in the Flow Sequences, and answer questions that often surface
in the deepening process of the Posture, Breathing and Meditation
practices. This part is usually very helpful for people on
any level of practice – it is very often through hands
on adjustments and working with a coach/partner that the practice
becomes deeper felt, enjoyed and understood. This is called
‘workshopping’ the practice, taking it down to
its components in order to more clearly understand the actions/reactions
and subtleties.
By popular demand we invite Christian
to share another magical retreat, fanning the fire in the
hearts of anyone who loves Yoga! The deep work that
is Christian's trademark is a popular with both teachers and
enthusiasts of Yoga. As well as being a remarkable teacher,
Christian is respected and enjoyed as a beautifully hearted,
giving man. A fresh retreat of teachings for previous students
of Christian's and new people alike.
Not to be missed!
Cost: £325 (£300 if booked before
28 January) deposit £150 (non-refundable).
